Mkhwebane makes finding of unethical conduct against McBride
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has made a finding of unethical conduct against former Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head Robert McBride.
The finding relates to the appointment of deputy director in the police watchdog, Theresa Botha.
Mkhwebane investigated the appointment after she received a complaint from a former Ipid employee Cedrick Nkabinde.
"The allegation that IPID improperly appointed Ms Botha as a deputy director without following proper recruitment processes is substantiated," Mkhwebane said in Tshwane on Wednesday.
The complainant was subsequently suspended after he raised concerns over Botha's lack of qualifications and the fact that the position did not exist.
"Allegations that Ipid improperly suspended the complainant against his protected disclosure regarding an alleged unethical conduct by Mr McBride and the appointment of Ms Botha, are substantiated," she said.
Mcbride has made it clear that he would be taking Mkhwebane's report on review.
