Mkhwebane concerned over 'systemic' irregularities in govt

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has released 19 reports that point to maladministration, improper conduct, irregular appointments, and fruitful and wasteful expenditure in several municipalities and government departments.
In a virtual media briefing on Monday, Mkhwebane said such investigations have become the norm.
"Such findings have become so frequent that it appears the problems are systemic."
One investigation found that the Department of Water and Sanitation had irregularly procured, System Application and Product (SAP) licenses for water boards which resulted in fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

Mkhwebane urged the government to use her findings and remedial actions to fix their systems.
