Only three days into the job, she had to answer her first round of questions in front of the Portfolio Committee on Justice.

The first salvo was fired from the DA's Werner Horn.

"We are faced with the first test for the new Public Protector in the issue of the state capture report, in which we were the complainants. A complainant, and indeed person implicated, must be furnished with these findings as soon as possible upon completion. So, I would like to enquire as to when that will happen," Horn said.

The EFF's Floyd Shivambu said there is unanimity amongst public representatives, because they want the report released.

"We have to release that report and those who are affected have an option of a judicial review," he said.

Mkhwebane answered that the much talked-about report is safely locked up in her office for the time being.

"I am supposed to prepare a responding affidavit for the court which is due on Friday. The report is there. I cannot release it until the matter is finalised, because the matter is sub judice," she said.
