The DA mayor served just over 100 days in office.

She was elected after the DA obtained 27 seats‚ the EFF nine seats and the IFP one seat in the local elections in August.

Acting Municipal Manager, Abe Mbulawa confirms the mayor tendered her resignation today.

"Those of us who spent time with her as Executive Mayor will remember her for the dedication she had in running Mogale City Local Municipality. The people of this city and its staff always came first to her," he says.

The executive mayor has cited her prolonged illness as the reason it is difficult for her to continue with the task of running the city.

The municipality will in due course announce processes pertaining to the filling of the vacancy.

Meanwhile, the DA has called for a special council meeting to be convened to elect a new mayor.

DA Gauteng provincial leader John Moodey says Pannall took over the reins of the City with enthusiasm, commitment and a rarely seen dedication to getting the job done.

"Unfortunately ill health forced the Executive Mayor to cut back on her busy schedule and has now reached the point where it would be detrimental to both her health and the office of the Mayor for her to continue in this position," the DA says in a statement.

"The DA will now call on the Speaker to urgently convene a special council meeting to elect a new Mayor and ensure that the excellent work started by Councillor Pannall and her team is able to continue without any delay."
