More than 40 000 Gauteng pupils yet to be placed for 2021

The Department of Education in Gauteng has revealed that more than 40 000 pupils in grades 1 and 8 are yet to secure a chair in a classroom.
Provincial MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi says 181 119 out of the 222 275 online applications received, have been allocated spaces in schools.
Lesufi updated the media on the admissions process on Sunday.
"A total of 88 503 grade 1 applications and 92 616 grade 8 applications are placed," says Lesufi.
41 156 pupils have not been placed, consisting of 18 823 grade 1 pupils and 24 333 grade 8 pupils.
"Currently 280 schools have reached full capacity and cannot accommodate any more placements," says Lesufi.
144 primary schools and 136 high schools have reached their capacity.
However, Lesufi is set to release the list of schools that are still accepting pupils next Monday.
The online admissions application period ran for one month from 25 June 2020.
