More than 6000 Covid-19 patients in SA hospitals

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has recorded an increase of 422 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
6 198 people are currently receiving treatment in both private and public health facilities for Covid-19 related complications.
The latest statistics show that 13 992 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours reporting cycle.
A total of 45 101 tests were conducted on Monday and the positivity rate increased to 31.0%.
Gauteng is still leading with the highest infections in the country, with 6 711 new infections confirmed.
However, new data shows an increase in new infections in especially KwaZulu-Natal.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (48%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (19%). Western Cape accounted for 10%; Free State and North West each accounted for 5% respectively; Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga each accounted for 4% respectively; Limpopo accounted for 2%, and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new cases,” said the NICD in a statement.
An additional 11 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 90 148.
The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 3 180 785.
On the vaccine front, 91 038 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
