More arrests at Langlaagte licencing centre

The authorities have made more arrests at the Langlaagte Licence Testing Centre.

Two examiners have been arrested for producing fraudulent vehicle documents.


 

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) arrested the men on Thursday.

Spokesperson for the provincial community safety department, Busaphi Nxumalo, says the pair, who are both in their early thirties, have been selling fraudulent vehicle documents such as licence discs, drivers licences, taxi permits, vehicle registration documents and temporary licences few for as little as R400.


 

MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has commended officials for their work in rooting out the rot at licencing centres.

"These are meant to be centres of excellence where we mould new crop of drivers and serves as passage to ensure that roadworthy vehicles are on our roads. Since I assumed this position, I have been advocating a message of road safety and we will not hesitate to deal decisively with any element that stand on our way to achieve this goal," she says.


 

Nxumalo says more arrests are imminent.


 

The suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Commercial Crime Court on Monday.
