More bad news as Eskom suffers trips at power plants
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
There's more bad news for households and businesses as Eskom continues to grapple with its ageing fleet.
The power utility announced on Monday that it would implement power cuts three hours earlier than expected in the evening.
Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says load shedding will take effect at 6pm instead of 9pm.
This follows trips at unit 1 of the Kusile power plant and unit 5 at Matimba, taking off 1300MW of capacity from the already constrained grid.
"The load shedding will continue as previously communicated and an update will be issued should the need arise," says Mantshantsha.
Lights will be switched back on at 5am on Tuesday.
"Load shedding will, as previously communicated, again be implemented from 9pm from tomorrow night [Tuesday]," Mantshantsha adds.
This is this the third consecutive day the country has faced rolling power cuts.
