More officers deployed on Gauteng highways after M1 robbery

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has ordered the deployment of more officers to patrol Gauteng highways.
The deployment follows an incident on the M1 North near the Crown Interchange in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, where suspected robbers targeted motorists during peak hour traffic.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says a manhunt is underway for the suspects.
"The SAPS has also bolstered the deployment of the Highway Patrol, SAPS Airwing, and Gauteng Flying Squad units to monitor and conduct regular patrols along the identified routes.
"This is after a video and voice note emerged on various platforms depicting suspects allegedly robbing motorists. By this afternoon, no cases had been reported yet.
"Engagements with the JMPD and other law enforcement agencies are ongoing in an effort to curb further incidents. SAPS tracking teams are on the ground searching for these suspects."
