More power woes for Eldorado Park as transformer explodes
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Efforts to restore electricity to the whole of Eldorado Park has suffered a setback after a second transformer exploded at a substation.
City Power technicians were busy with repair work at the substation, which exploded on Friday when the second transformer went up in flames.
As a result the repair work, which was expected to be completed by Wednesday, had to be abandoned.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the explosion affected the first transformer, which also tripped on impact.
“We managed to switch on the Goldev switching substation and restored customers in Freedom Park, Mpumelelo, Devland, among others. The explosion on the transformer that happened at 15:15 has left all the areas, mostly around Eldorado Park, affected by the initial fire.
“Teams are busy assessing the first transformer that tripped to ensure its restored and the blown-up transformer will be replaced by a new transformer which will be brought to the site.”
