Mosque Device: Bomb squad to give more clarity
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Various law enforcement authorities are set to convene on Monday morning after a device, suspected to have contained explosives, was found at the mosque where a fatal attack took place last week.
Residents of Verulam, north of Durban, had to be evacuated on Sunday evening after the device was found inside the mosque.
On Thursday, three attackers killed one man by slitting his throat and injured two others after midday prayers at the same mosque.
"We are on our way to meet with the bomb disposal team that took away the device. They are going to brief us on what it is, is it an explosive device or is it just something to raise alarm to the community," says KwaZulu-Natal Hawks spokesperson, Simphiwe Mhlongo.
Police Minister Bheki Cele had toured the mosque earlier on Sunday.

"It is so strange that such a device was found in the mosque after a thorough search that was done on Friday that was done by the forensic and the police," added Mhlongo.

He says the bomb squad will release the findings into the investigations this morning.
The elite-crime fighting unit has previously said that the attack showed "elements of extremism."
