Motorists to dig deeper into their pockets for petrol in March
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Motorists will have to pay more for petrol this month.
This comes after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DME) announced the latest fuel price adjustments on Tuesday.
Both grades of petrol (93 and 95 octanes) will increase by 65 cents a litre.
Spokesperson for the Department, Robert Maake says the fuel price for March is driven by the increase in the prices of crude oil and the exchange rate.
"The Rand appreciated, on average, against the US Dollar (from 15.09 to 14.76 Rand per USD) during the period under review when compared to the previous one. This led to lower contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by around 14.00 c/," says Maake.
"The average Brent Crude oil price increased from 53.10USD to 60.10USD per barrel during the period under review."
Diesel will increase by 54 cents a litre, while illuminating paraffin will see a hike of 47 cents a litre.
The price changes kick in on Wednesday.
