Former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng wants to appeal the high court ruling ordering him to pay back R850 000.

On Friday afternoon court rules in Special Investigating Unit (SIU) favour which went to court to recoup the legal fees paid to Majavu Incorporated by the national broadcaster when Motsoeneng was fighting the decision to set aside his appointment as COO.

The SABC and SIU approached the courts together.

Court found that Hlaudi unlawfully procured payment of legal fees by the SABC, even though the legal services were incurred in his personal capacity.

Motsoeneng says the judgment was a default because he did plead in the matter.

"It is not a judgment that says that I am wrong. The only issue is that I did not plead.

"It has nothing to do with me or advocates or lawyers that are dealing the matter. It has nothing to do with me," he said.

He alleges that at the time the SABC had an agreement with Majavu.

"This propaganda that says that I used the SABC to pay for my legal fees is malicious because I have never been involved in any payments of the legal fees, it was SABC and the insurance.

"In any case, I was insured. I have already the judgment, they [application papers] have been served already," Motsoeneng said.
