Mourners hear how Bizos ‘gave completely of himself’

Nicholas Bizos, the grandson of legendary human rights lawyer George Bizos, has told mourners that his grandfather always gave “completely of himself”.
He was speaking at George Bizos’ special official funeral on Thursday.
The anti-apartheid activist passed away at his Johannesburg home at the age of 92 last week.
“Like his good friend Nelson Mandela to whom he was deeply loyal, his life was always bigger than what we as his family could fully comprehend,” said Nicholas.

“He gave completely of himself to his wife, children and grandchildren but also to the thousands of families
that have come through Saheti, the school he helped found almost 50 years ago.
“He also gave of himself to the families and children of those he defended and sought justice on behalf of. It’s that complexity and colour of his life that I have come to appreciate as I become older and wiser.”
Bizos rose to prominence after he defended former president Nelson Mandela and others during the Rivonia Trial.
He also defended African National Congress (ANC) activist Mac Maharaj in the "Little Rivonia Trial" later in 1964.
