The movement had planned to march against a growing anti-migrant campaign by Operation Dudula that has been targeting foreign nationals living in South Africa.

KAAX convener and activist Dr. Dale Mckinley says they expect the JMPD decision to be overturned.

“Because of the prohibition of our march by JMPD we are going to court, the application has been put before the high court and be finalised on Tuesday and we hope to have a hearing on Tuesday.”

Mckinley says the Dudula is inciting hatred and are engaging in hate speech.

“This is against the law of our country, and it is outrageous that the authorities are doing nothing about it, in fact, authorities are embracing Operation Dudula. There is also the abuse of social media, the social media companies must pay attention to what is being put in their platforms.”

Mckinley says they have postponed their march against xenophobia to Saturday 26 March instead.

The marches in Cape Town and Welkom to commemorate Human Rights Day are set to go ahead.
