Mpumalanga man in court for rape of girl

A man has been arrested for the rape of a teenage girl in Leslie in the Gert Sibande District on Saturday.
The 12-year-old girl was playing in the street when she was lured into the house of the suspect.
Police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli says the 40-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident.
"The sad incident which ironically occurred during Child Protection Month (May) was reported to the Police in Leslie who acted with speed thereby arresting the suspect a few moments after the matter was reported.
"It was reportedly during the time when the suspect allegedly took advantage of the girl and raped her. After the incident, the victim went home and related her ordeal to her grandmother.
"The matter was eventually reported to the police in Leslie and the astute members reacted swiftly whereby the suspect was apprehended."
The suspect is expected to appear in the Leslie Periodical Court on Monday.
