Mpumalanga protesters barricade N4 for second morning
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Protesting community members blocked all lanes on both directions of the N4 for a second consecutive morning on Thursday.
The protest, which started on Tuesday evening, is causing havoc on the road before Emalahleni near KG Mall, on the highway that is the main link between Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Mpumalanga community safety spokesperson,Moeti Mmusi, says relevant stakeholders are expected to meet with community members at midday to discuss a way forward.
"The N4 is still closed but I have been informed that there will be a meeting today around 12 with the community with the view of trying to resolve the situation. What we noted is that yesterday (Wednesday) was very violent but overnight the police tried to get the road to be opened but seemingly the community was not willing to.
"But we are hoping that once the meeting sits at 12 with the relevant stakeholders and the community there will be some breakthrough and the road will be opened again."
"The police are working very hard to make sure that the situation is normalized as soon as possible because this is a very important road that links Gauteng and Mpumalanga as well as the country."
