Mpumalanga woman handed hefty sentence for child smuggling

A 57-year-old woman has been has been handed a ten year prison sentence for trafficking in a 6-year-old boy from Mozambique to South Africa.

Judith Nyantumba appeared at the Carolina Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Thursday.
Hawks spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi says Nyantumba smuggled the boy into South Africa in May 2018 and forced him to work for her without payment.
"The Hawks took over the case immediately after it was reported and ensured that the suspect was brought to book."
