Msimanga will take over from the DA’s Gauteng leader John Moodey in the provincial legislature on Wednesday.

Mike Moriarty has been appointed as chief whip and Makashule Gana as chair.

Addressing media at the legislature on Friday, Msimanga said one of the first items on the DA’s list will be tackling e-tolls.

“I think we’ve had quite a number of times about the issue of finalizing the e-toll saga, but we have not gotten to know where we are. We will be pushing for it to be finalised and we are going to propose in the legislature that there be an inter-governmental dispute that should be lodged. Failure to do that we will ask the premier to take the matter to court and declare that urban tolling is something that should not continue to happen here in Gauteng.”

The ANC finds itself in a tight corner after it only managed to secure a 50.19% of the votes in Gauteng during the recent elections.

This means all ANC members in the legislature will need to be present in order for legislation to be passed.

“We will always remind the ANC that they have a majority of one. And that they won’t have it easy this coming term, we are going to keep them on their toes, we are going to make sure that they serve the people of Gauteng,” added Msimanga.
