Msimanga vows to bring an end to corruption, cronyism
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Tshwane's new executive mayor - the DA's Solly Msimanga - says the capital city has a responsibility to ensure it sets the highest possible standard for the rest of the country.
Msimanga was elected unopposed at the city's inaugural council meeting on Friday.
The DA has also taken up the position of Speaker with Rachel Katlego Mathebe and Chief Whip with Christian Van Der Heever elected into the position.
No party managed to win an outright majority in the recent local government elections, but with the help of smaller opposition parties, the DA has taken control of the capital city.
Msimanga vowed to bring to an end corruption, cronyism, nepotism and patronage.
"This city is technically bankrupt right now, because of greediness and because of people who decided to put themselves first instead of the people of Tshwane first and we are saying now more. We are saying that the people of Tshwane will experience once and for all what real service delivery is all about," Msimanga said.
