Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The four police officers accused of shooting and killing Mthokozisi Ntumba were granted bail on Friday.
Police officers Cidrass Motseothata (43), Madimetsa Legodi (37), Victor Mohammed (51), and 27-year-old Tshepiso Kekana appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application.
The four have all indicated that they will be pleading not guilty on all charges.
They are charged with murder, three charges of attempted murder, and defeating the ends of justice.
Ntumba was fatally shot during a student protest in Braamfontein two weeks ago where he was a bystander.

The four were granted R8 000 bail each.
"We respect and accept the court's decision as the NPA,” said Gauteng NPA, spokesperson Phindi Mjonodwane after having asked the court not to grant the accused bail.
"All four accused are charges under the doctrine of common purpose hence they all face the charges.
"All those charges remain for now as investigations are ongoing," Mjonondwane said.
The accused will be back in court on 21 May.
