Deputy President David Mabuza has acknowledged that the African National Congress’ (ANC) policy of cadre deployment at embattled power utility Eskom has been a failure.

Mabuza addressed the dire state of the power utility at the South African Communist Party (SACP) national congress in Benoni on Tuesday.
He said the recent appointment of André de Ruyter as Eskom CEO is an attempt to address the inefficiencies brought by employing party loyalists into strategic positions.
“We aren’t doing well in the deployment of cadres into strategic positions.
“The recent deployment of the CEO OF Eskom is a case in point and this is a decision that we took in the deployment committee.”
Mabuza apologised for crisis at Eskom, which resulted in the implementation of stage 6 load shedding on Monday.
“With regards to Eskom, we are mindful of the challenges that are faced by Eskom and probably we should take this opportunity and apologise to the public for all the inconvenience that all our people, business people are going through because of the challenges in Eskom.
“We cannot allow Eskom to fail. We’ll do everything in our power to get Eskom right.”
