N14 ‘safe to use’ following earlier protests

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says law enforcement agencies remained on standby following a community protest on the N14 towards Diepsloot on Wednesday morning.
"We can confirm that currently there are riots on R55 from Centurion towards the Diepsloot area. Streets that are heavily affected; it's your Tulip Road from the mall towards R511 and N14. We advise motorists to avoid the mentioned streets that come into these areas."
The reason for the protest, which began in the early hours of Wednesday morning, remained unclear.
Tshwane metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says there have been reports of protestors throwing stones at passing vehicles.
"We have received information of allegations of stones being thrown by the protesters, but we did not at this stage confirm these incidences as well. We will continue to be on site until everything is back to normal."
Roads were also barricaded with rocks and burning tyres.
"What we can say at this stage is that N14 and the R511 are flowing, although there are objects on the portion of the streets that I have mentioned. We are safe to say motorists can use the N14 and R511,” adds Mahamba.
No arrests have been made.
