Nando’s drops Gareth Cliff over controversial interview
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
Popular chicken outlet Nando's announced on Saturday it will bring an end to its five-year sponsorship of Gareth Cliff’s The Burning Platform.
The decision follows public outrage over his comments during the show on Cliff Central.
Nando’s made the announcement on Saturday.
The remarks in question were made during a discussion on the upcoming local government elections, featuring Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen and community activist Mudzuli Rakhivhane.
When they try to talk over you and tell you that your experiences as a black woman in South Africa do not matter🤦🏽♀️. Racism is structural and even operates at a municipal level. The literal definition of black lives don’t matter. 💀 pic.twitter.com/i2KcVzjcCd

The conversation turned to the DA’s controversial posters in Phoenix, with Cliff saying poor service delivery is a much bigger issue for South Africans than racism.
He also branded Rakhivhane's lived experiences of racism as “unimportant”.
