Nathaniel Julies murder trial set to start in March
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
The trial of the three police officers linked to the murder of Eldorado Park teen Nathaniel Julies is set to start in the High Court in Johannesburg on March 19.
The Protea Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday that investigations are complete and the case will be transferred to the High Court.
Sixteen-year-old Julies, who was born with Down syndrome, was allegedly shot by police officers in August last year.
He later died in hospital.
His mother Bridget Harris says the family is happy that some progress is being made.
"I can only just say that I am feeling happy now. I can see where the case is going and we are finally going to get justice.
“Nathaniel deserves justice because he was a sweet, young, innocent boy who did nothing to anybody.”
Harris admits the family has been under a massive amount of strain.
"Life has been tough and the up and downs and financial strain is taking a toll on us. The place where we stay, we are still renting. It is only one working person.
“The children needed to be sorted, they cannot be sorted out because we have to pay rent and buy stationary, so it is taking a toll on the family.
"We are on our way to counselling because people have reached out."
