National bus strike on the cards
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Wage talks between unions and the employer have deadlocked.
A national bus strike is looming.
The warning from five transport unions and Golden Arrow Bus Services comes after annual wage negotiations deadlocked.
The unions are demanding a 12% wage increase across the board with a minimum basic wage of R8000.
Employers, meanwhile, are offering a three year agreement with 7% for the first year, 7.25% in 2019 and 7.5% for 2020.
Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson, Bronwyn Dyke-Beyers warns that if no agreement is reached a strike could commence on April 18th.
"Unless an agreement is concluded by the 16th of April, it is likely that a 48-hour notice of pending strike action will be issued," says Dyke-Beyers. "This means that a national bus industry strike could commence."
She adds however they remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached before then.
