Necsa board can leave if they want to, says Mantashe
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Minerals Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe says if the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa (Necsa) board wants to leave, then “they can leave”.
"If they want to leave they can leave, I won’t stop them because what we are doing in the department is to resuscitate governance which has collapsed. So we are rebuilding it," he said.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy is replenishing the Board of NECSA. We are working on resuscitating governance in entities within the minerals & energy portfolio. As we pay attention to governance, we will look into financial & operational risks. @DMR_SA @Energy_ZA pic.twitter.com/wkwlaLfquv

Mantashe also confirmed that only three people were left on the board.
He said the department is also in a process of making new appointments to the board.
We must reinstate NECSA into a functional state. We can't allow dysfunctional governance. We must appreciate that correcting governance is painful. @DMR_SA @Energy_ZA pic.twitter.com/z4eNfWZcP4
