Nehawu to forge ahead with strike at SARS
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Trade union Nehawu says its members will down tools at South African Revenue Service branches across South Africa on Thursday.
The union marched to the SARS offices and Treasury in Tshwane on Wednesday to demand a 12% wage increase.
Nehawu spokesperson Lwazi Ntolozi says no wage agreement has been reached, which means workers are left with no choice but to strike.
“Members are going to be having demonstrations and pickets at SARS offices, to continue where we left off yesterday. And they are going to demonstrate and they will not be working at all. So across the various SARS offices there will be demonstrations. It's a continuation from where we left off yesterday.”

Nehawu members are demanding a 12% wage increase, while SARS is offering a 0% increment.
In a statement released by SARS on Wednesday, the revenue service says it has still not received a response to its offer from Nehawu.
It maintains Nehawu wage demands are unaffordable.
