Nehawu lambasts Bathabile Dlamini
Health workers union Nehawu has lambasted Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini for focussing more on factional political battles than on the state of her department.
Nehawu Secretary General Bereng Soke told a press briefing in Johannesburg they have tried since 2015 to come to an agreement with the department over employment conditions for public social development workers - without success.
The union's criticism comes in the light of its call for President Jacob Zuma to resign, and its support for Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to take over the reigns.
Soke says they're planning five different marches on Friday; in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal as well as the Northern, Eastern and Western Cape.
He says this will serve as a warning to minister Dlamini that Nehawu workers will go on strike, if their demands are not met within five days.
"Potentially, the disastrous situation related to SASSA, an institution in which we also organise and represent members, underscore the systemic crisis of the dysfunctionality of the department and the Minister continues to recklessly place vulnerable grant recipients at risk as poor communities squarely depend on the professional services of our members, as she is more concerned about destructive factional battles in the ANC," says Soke.
