New and suspected cases of coronavirus decreasing, says China ambassador

The number of new confirmed and suspected cases of the deadly corona virus have shown a decrease over the past ten days.
This is according to Chinese ambassador Lin Songtian, who briefed media on the latest developments on the virus in Pretoria on Tuesday.
“Up to nearly a month of our arduous fight, China has achieved a positive outcome in combating the epidemic. The situation in the whole China has shown a positive trend. The number of new confirmed cases and suspected cases, both have been declining in more than ten days,” Lin said.

Although the country is still not out of the woods just as yet, the number of new cases have dropped by close to 50%.
“The number of new confirmed cases per day dropped from 3887 cases on 4 February to 1886 on 17 February,” he added.
Since the outbreak began in December, 1868 people have died from the virus with no cure in sight.
The Chinese government is still trying to determine the source of the virus.
