New Covid-19 cases increase to highest level in a week

The number of new Covid-19 cases in South Africa increased on Wednesday, overtaking the average of new infections posted over the previous seven days.

Statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) show that 942 new cases were recorded in the latest 24-hour period. 

 

This represents a 2.4% positivity rate.

The Western Cape accounts for most of the new cases standing at 23%, followed by Gauteng at 18% and KwaZulu-Natal at 15%.

 

A further 37 Covid-19 related deaths have also been recorded, which brings the number of Covid-19 fatalities to 88 466.
