New Covid-19 cases rise by over 16 000, Gauteng remains hotspot

The number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa now stands at 3 020 569.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases said on Saturday evening that 16 366 new coronavirus cases had been recorded since its previous report.
This represents a 23.8% positivity rate.
Gauteng remains the hotspot of the emerging fourth wave and accounts for 71% of the new cases.
The Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal each accounted for 6% of new cases.
The death toll has climbed to 89 965, with 21 new deaths reported and there has been an increase of 110 hospital admissions.
The latest vaccination statistics show that just under 58 000 doses had been administered over the past 24 hours.
