New Covid cases rise by over 16 000, KZN overtakes Gauteng as hotspot

The total number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa now stands at 3 292 609.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases said on Saturday evening that 16 080 new coronavirus cases had been reported since its previous report.
This increase represents a 28.8% positivity rate.
KwaZulu Natal has overtaken Gauteng as the new hotspot, with the majority of new cases (26%) reported in that province. Gauteng accounted for 21% of new cases, followed by the Western Cape with 18%.
The death toll has climbed to 90 345, with 48 new Covid-19 related deaths recorded by the Department of Health.
Nationwide there has been an increase of 215 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
Close to 17 000 vaccines had been administered over the same period.
