New investigations in Coligny murder case

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed new investigations into the so-called "Sunflower" murder case from Coligny.

Two farm workers, Pieter Doorewaard and Phillip Schutte were found guilty in the North West High Court in Mahikeng in November 2018 for the murder of 16-year-old Matlhomola Moshoeu. 


According to the lone state witness, Bonakele Pakisi, he saw the pair push the 16-year-old off the bakkie and killing him after they had caught him stealing sunflowers.


Doorewaard and Schutte denied the testimony and were found guilty of murder, kidnapping, intimidation, theft and pointing a firearm.


Since then, conflicting reports and allegations that Pakisi lied under oath and that he admitted it to people outside court.


He is claiming that he has been intimidated to change his testimony.


The NPA's Advocate Tembeka Mbadu told Jacaranda FM News on Monday morning that the head of the provincial police has appointed two investigating officers to probe the claims of intimidation by Pakisi. 




"The information that we have as the NPA is that the head of the provincial saps detectives, they have appointed two experience investigators under the supervision of a brigader to investigate Pakisi alleged intimidation claims," says Mbadu.



Meanwhile, sentencing proceedings are due to stat in teh North West High Court this morning.


Mbadu says the case is on the roll for three days, to complete the arguments.
