New Public Protector's first day out of the office

Parliament has heard it is all systems go for new Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

She is making her public debut as Public Protector- answering questions in front of the Portfolio Committee on Justice about the entity's performance in 2015 / 2016.
It's her third day in the post, but she says she's already picked up some problems.
"There is no staff morale due to labour related issues. My intention in this regard will seek to ensure there is an improved organisational and individual performance in the long run," she said.
Mkhwebane shared her plans for the office, saying she want to empower people at grass roots level who will be able hold their leaders to account.
"Contrary to popular belief, this does not mean that I'm going to give high profile matters less attention. I intend instilling a culture of resolving disputes and people's concerns through negotiations and speedily. I also intend ensuring that the Public Protector is responsive to the needs of the people of South Africa," she said.
Like her predecessor Thuli Madonsela, Mkhwebane has also asked for more funding from parliament.
