The City of Johannesburg has confirmed new security features put in place to protect its ICT systems.
The City of Johannesburg has confirmed new security features put in place to protect its ICT systems.
The city was forced to shut down its online services last week after hackers threatened to release customer information.
Spokesperson Ntshatisi Modigoane says he expects the website will go live on Monday.
"The work is going very well. Over the weekend the plan is to run all the systems and make sure that everything is safe and secure and we anticipate that everything will be up and running on Monday."

Modigoane adds that the hacking of the city's site served as a good opportunity to upgrade the entire system.
"We have to upgrade some of the features. You must remember that in the IT world technology evolves very fast so we had to upgrade some of the systems so that we are right on par and on level with new trends that are happening in the IT space,” he says.
"The shutdown was from the city's side and it was a precautionary measure and it gave us an opportunity to upgrade the entire system."
