NGO ‘disappointed’ at another delay in Cosas 4 trial

The Foundation for Human Rights Dr. Zaid Kimmie has expressed its disappointment after the trial of two men in the so-called Cosas 4 trial was hit by another delay.
The two surviving men responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Eustice ‘Bimbo’ Madikela, Peter “Ntshingo” Matabane, Fanyana Nhlapo, and the attempted murder of Zandisile Musi in 1982, appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday.
Christiaan Rorich and Tlhomedi Mfalapitsa are facing charges of kidnapping, murder and crimes against humanity.
The trial has been postponed to January 2024 to allow the Southern African Litigation Centre (SALC) to file papers to be admitted as amicus curiae.
Executive Director of the Foundation for Human Rights Zaid Kimmie said there is reason for cautious optimism that the trial will finally proceed in January.
"While we are very disappointed with the postponement, we are glad that dates have been set for October to decide whether the amicus parties will be allowed to intervene, and the trial will proceed in January.
"The defence team have raised no further objections to these dates, so there is reason for cautious optimism that the trial will proceed.”
