NICD: No traces of cholera in Tshwane, tests to continue
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has confirmed that it found no trace of cholera in the Hammanskraal area, north of the city.
“There is no evidence of a cholera outbreak,” the NICD said in a statement on Thursday.
The institution tested blood samples of four patients who contracted diarrhoea but the specific bacteria which causes cholera was not found.
“Testing of potable water is underway to assess water safety, and the NICD will meanwhile continue testing stool samples,” the statement continues.
The City of Tshwane sent the samples for testing after residents claimed that the water in their taps is unsafe.
