Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Top South African cyclist, Nicholas Dlamini says surgery "went well" after he broke his arm during an altercation with SANParks rangers at the Table Mountain National Park on Friday.
Dlamini released a statement on his Facebook page in which he thanked everyone for their outpouring of support.
He is currently recuperating in hospital after he underwent surgery over the weekend.
In his statement, Dlamini says that it is too early to make a prognosis regarding his recovery:
Meanwhile, the fate of the five rangers involved in the incident should be known soon.
SANParks issued them with letters of intention to place them on precautionary suspension on Saturday and is now awaiting the rangers' reply.

The incident has been widely critisised.
On Sunday, the Congress of the People (COPE) said the rangers should be charged with assault.
"COPE is baffled why these bullies were not charged and put behind bars," said COPE spokesperson, Dennis Bloem.
