Nine Gauteng schools on a go-slow
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Nine Gauteng schools are on a go-slow in solidarity with Klipspruit-Wes Secondary.
It comes after Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi dissolved the school's governing body amid racial tension.
Schooling has been disrupted due to the protest action over the appointment of a black principal at the Eldorado Park school.
Provincial education spokesperson Steve Mabona has confirmed the go-slow, but would not name the schools involved.
"We are closely monitoring the situation as this is a busy period on the school calendar. We cannot be held at ransom when children should be preparing for their exams."
Parents are reportedly claiming that their children are being victimised by black teachers.
Mabona says the department is working hard to resolve the issue.
"All concerned parties are working tirelessly to resolve the impasse. The department implores educators to adhere to the code of conduct and desist from taking part in any activities which compromise effective teaching and learning," he says.
A district official has been deployed to the school to ensure teaching and learning continues without further disruption.
