Nine men stoned to death in Roodepoort
Nine men have been found dead in a road in Roodepoort after they were brutally attacked by unknown assailants on Friday.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says it's still unclear how the incident unfolded.
"ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, arrived on the scene after 16h00 to find several bodies lying in the road," says Meiring.
"Medics assessed the men and found that eight men had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life."
The ninth victim succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.
"Once treated, the men were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent care. Unfortunately, at hospital, one of the critically injured patients succumbed to his injuries."
It appears the men were stoned to death.
"The local authorities confirmed on the scene that the men had been assaulted with bricks so a lot of the injuries that the patients sustained were blunt force trauma injuries," says Meiring.
The motive for the killings is unknown.

The elite crime-fighting unit uncovered the plot and stopped the woman's plans dead in its tracks. The 49-year-old woman, who is a former senior manager at Capricorn District Municipality, was arrested at her house on Thursday evening. Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke says the estranged couple was finalising their divorce prior to the incident.
