No arrests from Thwala ID parades, court hears

The High Court in Pretoria heard on Friday that no arrests were made due to identification evidence provided by state witness MMthokozisi Thwala.

Senzo Meyiwa

Thwala took to the stand for the final time on Friday in the trail of five men accused of the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.

He spent the day under cross-examination by Advocate Zandile Mshololo, who represents accused number five.

Thwala was present at the house in Vosloorus on the night of Meyiwa’s death in 2014.

His testimony revealed that he went through two ID parades and assisted law enforcement in compiling an identikit of the suspects.

“And from that identification evidence that you made from the first statement to the police after the incident to exhibit J, no one has been arrested as a result of the information you have given to the police? The first identity parade you couldn’t point out to anyone is that correct,” questioned Mshololo.

“Yes,” responded Thwala.

“And also from your evidence in chief and testimony, in the second ID parade you also didn’t point at anyone? The one that was had in Pietermaritzburg,” Mshololo probed.

“Yes, I pointed out someone who had similar features not that it was that person,” Thwala told the court.

“So far as of today, as we speak there is no one who has been arrested as a result of the identification evidence that you gave the police in all these scenarios. First identification parade, in the identification kit and in the second identification results,” Mshololo continued

“No one has been arrested but that does not mean it won’t assist,” he said.

The state will call a new witness on Monday.
