No bombs found at Clearwater Mall
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
The mall was evacuated on Monday morning after an anonymous phonecall was received, claiming there are four bombs inside the shopping precinct.
Police spokesperson Mack Mngomezulu says the anonymous caller requested a ransom to reveal the locations of the bombs.
“The centre’s receptionist got an anonymous phonecall. The person claimed to have placed four bombs inside the mall and requested a ransom of R100 000 to give its locations,” he says.
An eyewitness told Jacaranda FM News she was visiting the mall with her three-year-old son when a police officer instructed her to make a U-turn and leave the precinct due to a bomb threat.
“I turned around and started driving out and saw people running into an open clearing area. There were a lot of ambulances, security company cars and police, “she said.
Mngomezulu says the Honeydew Police Station will investigate the incident.
