No load shedding expected Saturday
The electricity system is constrained but stable, with no load shedding anticipated on Saturday, Eskom said.
“The power system remains vulnerable all day during summer. We appreciate the support of all our customers and encourage that we maintain 10 percent electricity savings,” the parastatal said in a statement.
“Living lightly or saving electricity reduces pressure on the grid, cuts your electricity bill and reduces South Africa’s carbon emissions.”
Eskom again offered a few tips on how consumers can reduce their electricity bill and conserve energy. These include using air conditioning efficiently by setting the temperature to 23ºC, closing windows and doors to optimise air conditioning, and switching off units 30 minutes before leaving the office.
Consumers can also switch off all geysers and pool pumps all day until 9pm and invest in a timer.
If one uses a swimming pool frequently, limit pool filtering cycles to two cycles daily, and not between 5pm and 9pm, switch off all non-essential lighting, and respond to power alert messages by switching off all appliances not being used.
