No load shedding in flood-ravaged eThekwini – Eskom

Eskom CEO André de Ruyter says the utility will not implement load shedding in eThekwini as the city works to recover from this week’s deadly storms.
De Ruyter briefed the media on Wednesday amid the latest bout of rolling blackouts.
The utility announced on Wednesday morning that stage 2 load shedding will be implemented continuously until the morning of Easter on Friday.
It was extended after generating units at the Medupi, Matla, Kendal and Komatikrag power stations tripped during the night.
There has been some good news with three generating units at Matla, Grootvlei and Camden all back in service.
De Ruyter said despite the damage to Eskom infrastructure, the grid in KZN is still intact.
“We have conducted a grid assessment to Eskom grids that supply to municipalities in KZN, in large our grid from an Eskom perspective is still intact. We have some minor interruptions in isolated areas where there are short term interruptions.
“We have offered our assistance to the municipalities in KZN to help with spares, with maintenance, those discussions are ongoing and we are also liaising with the MEC in order to enable us to coordinate our system through the disaster management of KZN.
“We have made an arrangement with eThekwini municipality and we are not implementing load shedding in eThekwini at this point in time.”
