State-owned power utility Eskom announced that stage 2 load shedding will continue throughout the weekend across the country

City Power's spokesperson Isaac Mangena explains that the city receives 80% electricity from Eskom and 10% from Kelvin Power Station in the east.

"The extra capacity that City Power has comes from various sources which include ripple relays, load limiting through smart meters, and Kelvin Power station.

“It is for this reason why City Power was able to cushion our customers against Stage  2 load shedding.

“Ripple relays technology is installed in certain areas around our areas of supply, allows us to remotely switch off high power users like geysers to help save electricity,” says Mangena.

Residents will be notified should the situation change.

“We are continuing to work with Eskom to come up with ways to lessen the burden of load shedding on the economy of this country,” says Mangena.
