No one taken in for questioning over OR Tambo heist
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane says they cannot rule out any collusion or the possibility of an inside job in the armed robbery at the OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday evening.
Phahlane, together with the management of the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), briefed the media on the investigation.
He did not want to comment on the amount of money stolen from a cargo hold in a restricted part of the airport.
"That is still subject to the investigation as well as where the money was destined to," says Phahlane.
The Hawks confirmed that 27 parcels of foreign currency were stolen during the heist.
Phahlane says no one has been taken in for questioning yet.
This comes after a vehicle used during the heist, with bogus police markings, has been found in Mamelodi.
Phahlane says security at the airport will be increased, and various people interviewed as part of the probe, including police officers and ACSA officials.
"We may request to be allowed space to investigate. We cannot rule out any inside job. We cannot rule out any collusion in this regard. Our view is that we need space to piece things together," says Phahlane.
