No Rugby World Cup on SABC TV or radio
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has confirmed that it will not broadcast the 2019 Rugby World Cup on either it's TV or radio channels.
The tournament kicks off in Japan on 20 September 2019 with the Springboks one of the favourites.
This comes after SABC Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Yolande van Biljon, told parliament's committee on Public Enterprises and Communication in August that the public broadcaster is technically bankrupt.

SABC spokesperson, Vuyo Mthembu, suggest they have exhausted all avenues in their attempt to retrieve rights to broadcast the World Cup.
"SABC was also negotiating the radio rights with another party which was IMG and unfortunately an agreement there could also not be reached," adds Mthembu.
"The cost of these particular rights would not be commercially viable and there would not have been a return on the investment," concludes Mthembu.
