The Department of International Relations (Dirco) has condemned the attack in the heart of London yesterday.

Dirco's Clayson Monyela says the South African government stands firm that no form of terrorism can ever be condoned.

"We believe that this is something which the international community needs to continue to rally around, find solutions to and stem this demon of terrorism out of our society," says Monyela.

Monyela says the department has been liaising with the South African High Commission in London to check whether any South Africans were affected by the attack.

"The latest report we have is that there is no report of any South African affected so far. We continue to monitor the situation and we offer our sincere condolences to the government and people of Britain following this deadly attack," says Monyela.

The attack comes as 68 nations gather in Washington for talks on how to defeat the Islamic State group.

Monyela says South Africa is part of those discussions.

"The issue of the challenge faced by the international community of global terror is a serious one and South Africa is part of the efforts to find solutions so that the international community can partner and together fight this thing," says Monyela.
