N3 open to traffic

The N3 north near the Mooi River Toll Plaza is open to traffic following earlier protests.

Thousands of motorists are expected to travel on the N3 between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng as the Easter weekend comes to an end.
Angry protestors targeted four trucks, including a fuel tanker, setting them alight in the vicinity of the Mooi River Toll Plaza.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said public order police and firefighters who were called to put out the blazes were stoned by demonstrators and forced to turn back.
"Police are there but because they don't have enough manpower, they are waiting for backup. They (the protestors) are stoning whatever they're seeing in front of them. Anything that is standing in their way, they are stoning them."

Mngomezulu said protestors also lifted bottles of alcohol from a fourth truck. She adds they still don't know who the demonstrators are.
The community is believed to be unhappy about foreigners being given preference when it comes to job opportunities.
